Azure Data Platform for Integrated Reporting, Operational Data Quality, and Data-Driven Business Management

Initial situation

Bindella is a long-established Swiss family-owned business with operations in the restaurant industry, wine trade, crafts, and other business areas. This broad corporate structure generates data across numerous operational systems—ranging from ERP, CRM, and point-of-sale systems to payment and HR systems, as well as other industry-specific applications. This system landscape reflects the diversity of the business but also places high demands on data integration, data quality, and reporting.

To ensure a consistent view of purchasing and sales, customers, foodservice, marketing, and supplier relationships, the relevant data sources should be systematically integrated, cleaned, and consolidated into a central data infrastructure.

Goals

The goal was to build a modern, scalable data foundation that not only enables traditional reports but also supports operational processes and can be easily expanded to include additional analyses in the future.

Role Novalytica

Novalytica played a key role in the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of the data infrastructure. This included integrating the various source systems, setting up the data processing in Azure Databricks, modeling the cleaned-up database, and implementing the Power BI reports.In addition to reporting, Novalytica also provided support for complex business and technical data processes. One example is the so-called “subject” issue, in which customers, suppliers, and manufacturers must be consistently identified, migrated, and exchanged across various source systems. Novalytica was involved in both the design and parts of the implementation, including the migration of subjects from the old ERP system and the integration of business functionalities such as VAT ID enrichment and address validation.
